The chapter introduces the Kindheart universe and main character, Troy Rogers-Barrow. It starts with a few “Galactipedia” articles that explain some of the technology, how the calendar works, and why everybody seems to have two last names.

Once that is out of the way, we introduce Troy as a young boy, and discover what motivates him through the rest of the book. The chapter ends with Troy graduating from the Academy of Interstellar Commerce and going back home to Ankara Cluster, a collection of space stations out past the orbit of Mars where his parents and younger sister live. The adventure doesn’t start until chapter two, but hopefully this is enough to determine if you want to read the book or not.
